Terrible Lizards is “first and foremost, a parkour platforming game” Dev: you run, jump, climb, wall-run, bounce and slide, and there are no weapons Official. Each area teaches a move, tests it with harder platforming, then a dinosaur chases you so you have to use it at speed. Learn the moves when it's quiet — the chase is the exam.
What kind of game this is
The developers describe a cycle: enter a new space, explore, learn a mechanic, get pushed into harder platforming, then a skill check — a tough platforming stretch or a chase — before the pace drops again for exploration, light puzzles or a big cavern to navigate Dev. There are also hunt/arena sections where a monster roams an open area while you complete objectives. If moving around feels good, the rest follows; that's the design goal Dev.
The move set
The store page lists run, jump, climb, wall run, bounce and slide Official; the developers add clambers and swings Dev, and community guides note beam balancing from Level 2 Community.
Chases vs hunts
Chases
Linear and scripted: a dinosaur is behind you and the route ahead uses what the level just taught. Don't look back — the camera turn costs speed. If you die, you restart close by; the patch notes even mention fixes for players “respawning at the spot where they died” in the demo Dev.
Hunts
Open areas where the monster roams while you collect or activate things — fuses, switches, dynamite. Work in loops: grab one objective, break line of sight, move to the next. In the first Bronto sequence, guides advise moving carefully while it searches and only sprinting when you must Community.
Puzzles: codes, fuses, power
- Codes come from notes, monitors or Stella — all of them are on the codes page.
- Fuses: carry them to a box; some need timed button presses to seat Community. Count the empty slots before leaving an area.
- Power: generators and switch sets open auxiliary doors, often on a timer — plan the route back before you flip the switch Community.
Settings worth changing
- Hints (Accessibility). Added in the demo for players who found the yellow guidance and Jordan's hints too hand-holdy. Turning it off swaps some environment pieces and colours and quiets Jordan. WDR warned the game wasn't designed for it and said they'd investigate it for the full game Dev Dev. Check your Options menu.
- 'Terrible' lighting. A low-cost lighting mode introduced for crashes on GPUs with 4 GB VRAM or less — and spookier Dev.
- Graphics presets: low, medium, high, epic and a Steam Deck preset; VSync on by default Dev.
- On very low VRAM, the DX11 launch option helped some players. See crash fixes.
Controller & keyboard
Full controller support on PC Official. Patch 1.0.9 fixed controllers getting locked out of sprinting, and an issue where players died instantly when entering a slide Dev — update before blaming your thumbs. Default bindings can change between patches, so check Options → Controls in your build rather than trusting a list online.
10 quick tips
- Update to v1.0.9 or later before you start Dev.
