Most launch-week progress blockers in Terrible Lizards — buttons locking after Stella's calls, a stuck title screen, slide deaths, a broken fuse panel and levels that wouldn't load — were fixed in patch 1.0.9 (Oct 30, 2026) Dev. For crashes on GPUs with 4 GB VRAM or less, the developers suggest the 'Terrible' lighting setting or the DX11 launch option Dev.
Do these first
- Update. Make sure Steam / Xbox app / PS5 has installed 1.0.9 or later.
- Check you meet the minimum (GTX 1050 2 GB / RX 560, 6 GB RAM, 25 GB) — see requirements Official.
- Update GPU drivers and verify game files (Steam: Properties → Installed Files → Verify).
- Lower the graphics preset (low/medium/high/epic/Steam Deck) Dev.
Fatal error / UE5 crash
“Fatal error”, “random crashes” and an Unreal Engine 5 error on boot are the most common Steam threads at launch Community. WDR has not posted a specific fix yet beyond 1.0.9 and asks for reports on Discord Dev. Things that help with UE5 games generally:
- Use the DX11 launch option (below) if the crash happens on startup or with DX12.
- Turn off overlays and frame-generation tools while testing.
- Delete the shader cache if crashes started after a driver update.
Generic UE5 steps — not official for this game.
Low-VRAM crashes
WDR saw crashes “especially on graphics cards with 4 GB or less of VRAM” in the demo Dev. Their two options:
- 'Terrible' lighting in the graphics settings — a cheaper lighting mode (and spookier).
- DX11 launch option: in Steam, right-click the game → Properties → General → Launch Options, and enter
-dx11. Remove it again if it doesn't help.
Levels not loading
Patch 1.0.9 “fixed several issues where levels may not load/unload properly” Dev. Steam threads such as “Levels Not Loading” and “Weird loading Error Act 2” were posted before and around the patch Community. If it still happens: reload the last checkpoint from the main menu, then verify files. A Game Pass PC player reported a Level 2 progression glitch — report it with your platform so WDR can reproduce it.
Soft-locks & stuck progress
| Symptom | Status |
|---|---|
| Can't press buttons after a Stella call | Fixed in 1.0.9 |
| Title screen stays on top during play | Fixed in 1.0.9 |
| Fourth fuse won't take (second Allo hunt) | Fixed in 1.0.9 |
| Blocked after boulders fall (second Bronto hunt) | Fixed in 1.0.9 |
| Can't sprint on controller | Fixed in 1.0.9 |
| Stuffed-animal achievement not unlocking | Reported, not in patch notes Community |
After updating, load your last checkpoint rather than continuing a broken session — fixes may not apply to a state that is already stuck.
Stutter & blurry image
Threads about frame drops, a “camera spring effect”, blurry visuals and DLSS frame generation appeared in launch week Community. VSync is on by default and can be turned off in the graphics menu Dev. Try a lower preset before turning upscaling on; if the image looks soft, check the upscaler's quality mode and the resolution scale.
Reporting a bug
WDR prefers bug reports on its Discord (#bug-reporting) and also watches the Steam forums Dev. Include platform, version number (shown on the main screen since demo 0.9.44), what you were doing and a save/clip if you can.
